The City of South Pittsburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners met on Tuesday night in regular session.

The city board voted to approve a resolution authorizing the Marion County Industrial and Environmental Development Board to amend the large manufacturing pilot and lease agreement by an extension of one year in connection with the operation of its manufacturing facility.

During the meeting, the board voted to approve a resolution authorizing the city to apply and provide matching funds for a 2023 tourism enhancement grant for the Princess Theatre and the expansion of tourism services. The maximum amount would be $90,000 from the state, with the city providing matching funds of $10,000 for a total of $100,000.

A citizen brought up an issue concerning abandoned houses and junk cars sitting at homes inside the city and that it was a bad look for the community. Police Chief Wayne Jordan said he had given out codes violation to one resident and told another financial institution that owned a home that it needed to be cleaned up. He said that by that afternoon, someone was cleaning up that particular property. The Chief said he was still working on other issues.

The next Board of Mayor and Commissioners meeting will take place at the Senior Citizen Building on Sept. 5 at 5 PM.
