On Thursday morning at approximately 10:30, Grundy County Sheriff Heath Gunter was notified by the Grundy County CommunicationsCenter that possible human remains were found in a field on U.S. 41 in Pelham. Sheriff Gunter immediately notified the investigation unit and the Grundy County Medical Examiner investigator, Don Hutcheson.
The on-scene investigator spoke with a forensic specialist who confirmed via photo documentation that the remains discovered were human in nature and would need to be sent to the Nashville medical examiner’s office for further analysis.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the district attorney’s office, and the TBI opened an investigation.
While on the scene, the assistance of a cadaver dog was requested from the Murfreesboro Police Department.
The remains were transported to Nashville for assistance with identifying the person. The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office received confirmation on Saturday that the remains were identified as Jeremy O’Bannon from Ringgold, Georgia, a man who went missing from his vehicle in Pelham on April 12, 2018. O’Bannon’s next of kin were contacted.
