A massive wildfire started on Sunday on Whitwell Mountain. Many firefighters responded to the scene.
Steve Lamb, EMA Director for Marion County, said the fire was still uncontained late Sunday night.
Treehouses at ‘Bolt Farm Treehouse’ were evacuated.
Whitwell Police reported the fire started due to a campfire near Bolt Farms. The fire spread into a more significant fire when it was seen by police and fire around 3:30 pm CST.
Chief Boyd with Whitwell Police posted on Facebook that firefighters from several areas were battling the fire on Whitwell Mountain.
As of 9:30 Monday morning, a helicopter was brought in to aid in getting the fires contained and extinguished.
Whitwell Police shut down Hwy 28 around Raceway for a period of time so the helicopter could gather water from the pond behind the business.
As of 7 pm on Monday, the fire was only 60% contained.
At least six fire departments reported to the scene, including Whitwell Mountain Fire Department, Sequatchie Volunteer Fire Department, West Valley Fire Department, Crossroads Fire Department, and Jasper Highland Fire Department.
