Two Deaths, Four Indicted, One on the Run

A Marion County grand jury indicted three men on separate second-degree murder charges.

In January, the Jasper Police Department found Joel Layne deceased with drugs in his system.

Upon further investigation, officials found Christopher Janeway responsible for providing Layne with a combination of meth and an opioid prescription drug that led to his death.

The investigation found that Janeway, Patrick Pitts, and Billy Gott were all engaged in providing meth.

While Janeway and Pitts were already in custody and arrested, investigators are still searching for Gott.

On February 19, 2024, Whitwell Police found Stacey Pedigo dead.

During their investigation, DTF agents executed a search warrant at Shonta Walker’s home in Dunlap.

During the search, agents said they found fentanyl inside the house.

They then identified Walker as the person responsible for giving fentanyl to the victim. The State Medical Examiner also said the fentanyl caused Pedigo’s death.
