Suspects on the Run after Police Pursuit that began in Marion County

A Marion County Sheriff’s Department deputy was involved in a vehicle pursuit on Saturday, April 20, 2024. While on patrol, Deputy Chris Layne noticed male subjects running from Kelly’s Ferry Church on Hwy. 41 close to the Hamilton County line.

As he turned around, the subjects got into a vehicle and fled from the scene into Hamilton County on Hwy. 41/Cummings Highway.

While in pursuit, Deputy Layne crashed and rolled his cruiser. He was temporarily trapped in the vehicle, but fire and EMS personnel were able to get the deputy out. He was checked out and found to have no injuries, and he was released to return to duty.

The vehicle that Deputy Layne was pursuing also crashed, but the subjects fled on foot.

They attempted to break into a residence on Francis Lane in Chattanooga. The homeowner fired a shot and scared the subjects off.

After assistance from Chattanooga Police and a K9 search, officers were unable to locate the suspects. Both agencies have leads in this matter, and the investigation continues.
