A tragic accident occurred on Signal Mountain Sunday night. Two hikers died while trying to cross a creek on Rainbow Lake Trail.
Signal Mountain Police said the two victims were close friends and are believed to be from Georgia.
Somewhere around a waterfall at the creek is where law enforcement believes the woman fell in, and the man jumped in to try and rescue her.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene and jumped into the water to rescue both victims.
They found the woman, but she died on the scene.
Crews then had to call for mutual aid to be able to recover the man’s body.
