Sequatchie County Deputy John Simmons has been honored by American Legion Post 190. He received the 2024 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.
“Deputy Simmons is a solid fixture within the sheriff’s office who does his job well day after day and is very deserving of this award,” stated Sheriff Bill Phillips. He also congratulated the co-recipient, Dunlap P.D. officer Lee Spain, and thanked the American Legion and all of its members for their service and recognition of this year’s award recipients.
Officer Spain suffered a stroke in 2022, which could have ended his career. However, Officer Spain has a true servant’s heart, loves his community, and has overcome adversity. Officer Spain fought his way back and returned to full duty.
