Late Saturday morning, the Piney Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Fall Creek Falls State Park for someone who fell over a bluff at Rocky Point Overlook off the Woodland Trail. Park rangers were able to locate the man. The patient was awake but injured.
Dunlap Fire Department was requested as mutual aid. Fall Creek Falls Fire Department, Van Buren County EMS, and Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
Piney Fire Department and Dunlap Fire Department set up ropes for three haul systems to get the man up to a portion of the trail so that he could be carried out. The patient was then put on a wheel and basket system and taken to a UTV driven by Fall Creek Falls Fire Department personnel to the road to meet EMS.
Patient care was turned over to LifeForce Air Medical. He was flown to a trauma center.
