On Friday, May 31, 2024, just before 2 PM the Haletown Volunteer Fire Department, Jasper Fire, Kimball Fire, Puckett EMS, Life Force, and Marion County Sheriff deputies responded to Highway 41 near Sullivans Landing in the Riverside community for a motorcycle crash with serious injuries.
Emergency personnel found the motorcycle driver, Steve Melton from Tracy City had crashed, and he was thrown over the guardrail down a 30 ft steep embankment.
Haletown Firefighters began rappelling down the embankment and contacted the critically injured patient. With the assistance of Jasper and Kimball Fire personnel the patient was brought up the embankment. Puckett EMS transported the patient to Sullivans Landing where patient care was transferred over to Life Force.
Melton received several injuries in the crash and has had multiple surgeries.
