Dunlap Wins Award for Upgrades at the Sewer Treatment Plant

Cory Engineering and the City of Dunlap Recently Won the Excellence Award for Upgrades at the Sewer Treatment Plant.

Award-winning, multi-discipline consulting firm Croy Engineering and the City of Dunlap, Tennessee were recently honored with an Engineering Excellence Award for upgrades on the City’s sewer treatment plant. The “Honor” award in the “Waste and Storm Water” category recognized the project. Croy worked with the City to provide engineering design services and oversee construction to rehabilitate the existing facility, which had not received any major upgrades in more than 30 years.

“These major upgrades made to our City’s sewer treatment plant will have a long-lasting positive impact on our community and enable our community to grow for years to come,” said Mayor Clinton P. Huth, City of Dunlap. “The Croy team’s responsiveness and commitment to excellence led to the successful delivery of a project that exceeded our expectations.”

Upgrades to the sewer treatment plant include a new headworks system to remove rags and debris, re-routed plant piping, and rehabilitated clarifiers. Additionally, the existing operations building was demolished and replaced with a larger operations building equipped with a new lab, office area, and break room.

The sewer treatment plant was first constructed in 1968, with modifications made in 1976 and 1987. Although operating under permitted capacity, the City knew upgrades needed to be reviewed as the aging plant deteriorated. Croy provided all engineering design services, including preparing a Preliminary Engineering Report to secure funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), developing design plans and specifications for construction bidding, obtaining all required permits, and providing bidding phase services. Croy also completed the construction administration and inspection services for the upgrades.
