A devastating fire at a motel in Monteagle has left nearly 40 residents displaced and uncertain about their future. The fire started around 10 on Thursday night at the Mountain Inn. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames in the eastern part of the structure and throughout the entire roof. Residents evacuated safely, with no injuries reported.
Due to the very cold conditions nearby, the fire hydrant was frozen solid and needed to be thawed out before crews could combat the fire.
Several area fire departments responded for mutual aid.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire.
