Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended two suspects in a large-scale financial scam. The scam began when the victim received a fraudulent Norton Antivirus message claiming she owed $410.00. After clicking a link, a scammer gained remote access to her computer, manipulated her banking info, and claimed she had transferred $41,000.00 instead of $410.00. They then pressured her into withdrawing cash under the guise of returning funds, even installing an app to monitor her phone in real-time. Her daughter recognized the scam and notified authorities. Investigators set up a sting at her home, leading to the arrest of two suspects from Atlanta.
