Memorial Day Ceremony Will Still Take Place in Jasper Despite Storm Damage

A powerful storm swept through the Sequatchie Valley late Sunday afternoon, damaging certain areas, including the Marion County Courthouse lawn in Jasper.

County Mayor David Jackson said cleanup crews would work quickly, so the Memorial Day ceremony planned for Monday can still occur at 11 AM.

A tree fell near the flags and memorial, but no damage was reported to either. The public is invited to the ceremony to remember those military members who died in service to our country.

Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It is observed on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer in the United States.
