Area County Unemployment Rates for May 2025

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) has announced that every Tennessee county recorded an unemployment rate of 5% or less in May.

Ninety-four of the state’s 95 counties had unemployment rates below 5%, and one county — Hardeman County in southwestern Tennessee — had a rate of 5%.

Unemployment rates decreased from April to May in three counties. Rates increased in 92 counties.

Williamson County reported the lowest unemployment rate in May at 2.6%, up four-tenths of a percentage point from the previous month.

  • Bledsoe County was 2.5 percent in April, but went up to 2.9 percent in May
  • Grundy County rose from 3.6 to 4.1 percent.
  • Hamilton County went from 2.7 to 3.1 percent.
  • Marion and Sequatchie counties jumped from 3.3 percent in April to 3.9 percent in May.
