At 5:17 p.m. on Thursday, the Dunlap Fire Department responded to a report of an older male involved in a paragliding accident on Lewis Chapel Mountain off Window Rock Road. The patient was approximately 40 feet over the side of the mountain with a possible broken ankle.
Piney VFD was requested as mutual aid. Volunteer firefighters set up a haul system. The injured man was placed in a basket and brought up to the top of the mountain. Puckett EMS evaluated him but chose to go by car for medical attention. The Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the scene.
During the rescue, the patient told the volunteer firefighters he was a retired firefighter from the northeastern portion of the country.
Various Dunlap FFs and sheriff deputies took pictures.
