September 19 High School Football Recap

The Chattanooga Prep Sentinels (2-3) outgained the Marion County Warriors (4-1) 316-131 in total yards for the non-region 18-6 win. The loss snapped Marion’s eight-game winning streak dating back to last season. The Warriors entered their Homecoming game ranked No. 1 in Class 2A and is the reigning state champion.

South Pittsburg dominated Franklin County with a 41-7 victory.

JaMychal Buckner was a standout player, running for 134 of his 153-yard total in the first half and scoring three touchdowns. Keveon Sutton also contributed with a 76-yard touchdown run, and Caden Jones had an outstanding performance, completing 10 of 12 passes for 139 yards and two scores. Dayon Cooper caught four passes for 77 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown. This win marks South Pittsburg’s third straight mercy-rule victory, and it was achieved on the road against a 5A opponent.

Additionally, South Pittsburg kicker Alex Phillips’ streak of consecutive PATs ended at 84, placing him third in state history for most made extra points in a row.

The Whitwell Tigers got into the win column this season as they blew past Lookout Valley 54-0.

Sophomore Brody Harvey rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Levi Griffith had 44 yards and two touchdowns.

Tim Yates led the Tiger defense with 9 total tackles.

Sequatchie County’s Indians rolled past the Cascade Champions on Friday, 32-0.

Hunter Minton started the scoring for Sequatchie County with a 1-yard rushing TD. Hunter Minton connected with Gowan Brown for two touchdown passes for the Indians. Austin Griffith added a 6-yard rushing TD, and Kason Hicks finished off the scoring with a 38-yard fumble return touchdown.

Sequatchie County stands 3-2 and will travel to take on Forest this week in region play. The game can be heard on Country 93.3 or www.theriver104.9.com.
