The #2 Class 1A-ranked South Pittsburg Pirates (8-1/3-0) defeated Copper Basin at home on Thursday night, 86-7, in a game you heard on The River 104.9. The 86 points ties the school record for the most points scored in a game. The Pirates went up 44-0 after the first quarter and led 72-7 at halftime. Next week, they will face the Tigers of Whitwell High School.
The Whitwell Tigers traveled to Jo Byrns on Thursday night. After a closely fought battle, the Tigers won 15-7.
Neither team scored in the second half. Whitwell improved to 3-7 overall and is 2-1 going into next week’s South Pittsburg game.
Friday night, at Bill Baxter Stadium in Jasper, Marion County will honor former Warriors great Jacob Saylors by retiring his jersey.
Jacob is a true example of what it means to be a Warrior for Life! Saylor’s rushing ability helped Marion County to three TSSAA championship games. Don’t miss this special celebration! Let’s make it a night to remember for Jacob and all the fans who fill Bill Baxter Stadium.
Saylors is currently a member of the Detroit Lions of the NFL. He was formerly with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the UFL. He’s also spent time with the NFL’s Falcons, Giants, Bengals, and Browns. He played college football at ETSU.
