Drag Racing on I-24 Sends Two to Jail

Two individuals were taken into custody and formally charged with drag racing after allegedly passing a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper at speeds exceeding 100 mph, as stated in an arrest report.

The affidavit indicates that the trooper was traveling at approximately 70 mph on Interstate 24 eastbound when a black Infiniti and a silver BMW SUV reportedly overtook his vehicle. According to the trooper’s statement, on March 23 at around 1:30 a.m., he conducted a traffic stop near exit 181 on I-24 and detained both drivers.

The affidavit identifies the individuals as Lucas Turner, age 19, and Rolando Martinez, age 20. During the investigation, the trooper observed a case of beer in the back seat of the BMW, as well as several beers throughout the vehicle. The trooper also reported detecting the odor of alcohol emanating from both drivers upon their arrival at the detention facility.

Both individuals were suspected to have blood alcohol content levels exceeding the legal limit of 0.02% for persons under the age of 21. Furthermore, the report notes that Martinez performed part of a field sobriety test but refused to complete the remainder.

Authorities charged both drivers with drag racing and reckless driving.
