Marion County Highway Department Details Ongoing Road Improvements and Closures

The Marion County Highway Department is advising motorists of several road projects taking place this week across the county.

Officials say Choctaw Trail on Suck Creek will be temporarily closed today from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. between the creek crossing with the large drainage tiles and the cemetery area. Crews will be installing new drainage tiles and preparing the roadway for future paving work. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes during the closure period.

In addition to the closure, county crews will be conducting roadway striping work on Ketner Mill Road and Hall Road. Additional striping projects are also planned in parts of the Pocket area on Whitwell Mountain and near the twelve-hundred block of Elder Mountain at Healing Springs.

The Highway Department is urging drivers to use caution around work crews and freshly painted road markings, noting that wet paint may still be present during operations.

Officials also announced that the asphalt plant currently supplying paving materials is temporarily down for repairs. If repairs are completed on schedule, paving work on Ketner Mill Lane is expected to resume Wednesday morning.

County officials apologized for any inconvenience caused by the work and thanked residents for their patience as road improvements continue.
