Fire Closed I-59 Near Trenton on Tuesday

I-59 south in Trenton, GA, was shut down Tuesday due to a large wildfire. The fire on I-59 spread quickly and wreaked havoc in the area. I-59 was closed due to the heavy smoke causing danger to both drivers and first responders. The interstate reopened after a few hours. There were no structures in danger,” according to Dade County EMA Director Alex Case.

The wildfire on Egypt Hollow Road was 100% contained but jumped a firebreak during the fire on I-59.

The Egypt Hollow Fire started on October 29th. It burned 176 acres in Georgia and 244 in Tennessee. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A local emergency declaration was issued because of drought conditions and several fires in Dade County, and a burn ban is in place until December 4th.
