Area Gas Prices Jump Nearly 19 Cents in One Week

Drivers across the area are seeing a sharp increase in fuel prices this week as the average cost of gasoline continues to rise.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Chattanooga increased by 18.9 cents over the past week, bringing the local average to approximately $2.74 per gallon. The increase mirrors a statewide trend as fuel prices continue climbing across Tennessee.

Despite the recent spike, Tennessee still remains among the states with the lowest average gas prices in the nation.

AAA analysts say the increase is being driven by higher crude oil prices and growing seasonal demand as more Americans begin traveling during the spring and early summer months. National gasoline demand has also risen in recent weeks, placing additional pressure on prices at the pump.

Motorists are encouraged to compare prices between stations and consider fuel-saving driving habits as prices fluctuate heading into the busy summer travel season.
