TDOT Awards Contract For Bridge Replacement Project for Shellmound Road and I-24 Bridges

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has awarded a contract for a future bridge replacement project involving two structures in Marion County.

According to TDOT, the project will replace the Interstate 24 westbound bridge over Shellmound Road as well as the Shellmound Road bridge crossing over I-24 eastbound. The work is intended to improve the long-term safety and reliability of the aging bridge structures.

The approximately $16.2 million design-build contract was awarded earlier this year to Wright Brothers Civil Construction.

Construction on the bridge replacement project has not yet begun, and TDOT has not announced a specific start date. Additional information and future traffic advisories related to the project will be available through TDOT.

Meanwhile, infrastructure construction work continues near the intersections of Shellmound Road, Pleasant Grove Road, and Dixie Highway (US-41/72/64) east of Jasper near the Cedar Grove community. Motorists are urged to remain alert for traffic pattern changes that have been in place in the area for several months.

As part of the ongoing project, the dedicated left-turn lane from Dixie Highway onto Shellmound Road and Pleasant Grove Road has been temporarily removed for the duration of construction. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, remain patient, and allow vehicles space to safely make left turns. Officials also remind motorists not to use right-turn lanes to pass stopped traffic waiting to turn left.

We will continue to follow this and provide updated information as it becomes available.
