The parade is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, beginning at 10 a.m. CST in South Pittsburg. City officials say the event is part of the city’s yearlong observance celebrating the nation’s semiquincentennial anniversary.
According to the City of South Pittsburg, parade lineup will begin at 9 a.m. behind Foodland. Organizers are encouraging participants to decorate floats and vehicles in red, white, and blue, with prizes planned for the best entries.
City leaders are inviting individuals, businesses, churches, civic organizations, and community groups from throughout Marion County to participate in the event.
The celebration also highlights the history of Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the American flag. Congress approved the Flag Resolution on June 14, 1777, establishing the design of the nation’s flag featuring thirteen stripes and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Flag Day later became an officially recognized observance in 1916 through a proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson.
Following the parade, free patriotic movies will be shown throughout the day at the Princess Theatre in South Pittsburg.
Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together in celebration of the nation’s history and patriotic spirit as America approaches its 250th anniversary.
