As the August County General Election approaches, local voters are being reminded of several important dates and the candidates expected to appear on the ballot.
According to local Facebook page Valley Votes, the deadline to register to vote for the August election is July 7, 2026. Early voting is scheduled to run from July 17 through August 1, with Election Day set for August 6, 2026.
Valley Votes notes that the August election will determine the final winners of county offices, with Democratic, Republican and Independent candidates appearing on the ballot for county races. In addition to county contests, voters will also participate in primary elections for statewide offices, including Governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Tennessee House, and State Executive Committee positions.
According to information shared on the page, voters will again be asked to choose either a Republican or Democratic primary ballot for the state-level races. County races, however, will appear on the general election ballot.
Among the countywide races, the contest for County Mayor includes Democratic candidate David Jackson, Republican candidate Travis Layne, and Independent candidates Tim Brooks, Daniel Carter, Patrick Childs and Benjamin Shankles.
The race for Sheriff features Democratic candidate Anthony Gamble, Republican candidate Chris Webb, and Independent candidates Michael “Scott” Burnett and Doug “Moby” Henderson.
Voters will also decide several other county offices. The race for County Clerk pits Democrat Joanie Spangler against Republican Corey Blevins. In the Trustee race, Democrat Connie Schaerer faces Republican Kellye Hudson Hogan. The Circuit Court Clerk position is currently uncontested with only Democrat Lonna Henderson on the ballot.
Several School Board races are also on the ballot. In District 3, Independent Ryan Phillips is seeking election. District 4 features Independent Brian “Bo” Nunley, while District 5 voters will choose between Democrat Linda Hooper and Republican Marie Layne.
A number of County Commission seats are contested as well. District 1-B includes Democrat Mark Myers, Republican Terry Smith and Independent Cliff Huffman. District 1-C features Republican Jeff Story and Independent candidates Jimmy Haley Jr. and Samantha Rector. In District 3-A, Republican Ronnie “Bo” Burnett faces Independent Brian Gossett. District 3-B includes Republican Steven Franklin and Independent Justin Baker, while District 3-C features Republican Mark Istanich and Democrat James “Dooner” Walden. District 4-C voters will choose between Democrat Curtis Spangler and Republican Terry Stiefel, and District 5-A includes Republican Jim Nunley and Independent Larry Higdon.
Other county commission races currently feature only a single candidate on the ballot.
The Tennessee Secretary of State’s election calendar confirms that the August 6 election will include both primary and general election contests. The state election calendar also lists July 27 as the deadline to request an absentee ballot for the election.
