The National Forensic Academy is considered one of the premier forensic training programs available to law enforcement professionals. Since its inception, fewer than 1,600 students from around the world have successfully completed the academy.

During the intensive training program, McGinness received advanced instruction in a wide range of forensic disciplines, including crime scene investigation, crime scene photography, bloodstain pattern analysis, shooting reconstruction, fingerprint processing and comparison, forensic mapping, evidence collection and documentation, courtroom testimony, and grave recovery techniques involving human remains donated to science.

The academy emphasizes scientific analysis and meticulous evidence collection practices designed to strengthen criminal investigations and improve the pursuit of justice for victims.

Sheriff’s office officials said the training will enhance the agency’s ability to investigate complex cases and provide additional expertise for criminal investigations throughout Grundy County.

“Graduation from the National Forensic Academy represents an extraordinary commitment to professional development and excellence in criminal investigations,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Officials added that the knowledge and skills McGinness gained through the program will directly benefit Grundy County residents by strengthening the agency’s investigative capabilities and helping ensure cases are handled according to the highest professional standards.

The sheriff’s office congratulated Detective McGinness on the accomplishment, calling it a proud moment for both the detective and the department.
