A Murfreesboro man was killed Saturday evening in a hit-and-run crash on I-24 west near the I-59 split in Dade County, Georgia, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Troopers responded to the scene just before 5 p.m. on June 6 after receiving reports of a motorcycle crash on westbound I-24 at the interchange with I-59 south.
The preliminary investigation determined that a red or brown sedan struck the right side of a motorcycle being operated by 35-year-old Nicholas Daley of Murfreesboro. The impact forced the motorcycle onto the left shoulder and into the median.
Authorities say the driver of the sedan continued westbound on I-24 without stopping.
Daley’s motorcycle then struck the end of a guardrail, causing him to crash. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The crash led to lane closures on both interstates and caused significant traffic delays and congestion in the area, including backups that extended across state lines.
Georgia State Patrol troopers continue to investigate the fatal hit-and-run and are working to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
Anyone with information about the crash or the suspect vehicle is encouraged to contact Georgia State Patrol headquarters at 404-624-6000.
