Area Gas Prices Drop 12 Cents Over the Past Week

Drivers across the Chattanooga area are seeing some relief at the pump as gasoline prices continue to trend downward.

According to the latest survey from GasBuddy, average gasoline prices in the Chattanooga area have fallen nearly 12 cents per gallon over the past week. The average price for regular unleaded fuel now stands at approximately $3.99 per gallon, based on reports from 170 stations across the area.

Gas prices in the area still remain higher than they were one month ago and significantly above prices seen this time last year, but the recent decline provides some welcome relief for motorists heading into the summer travel season.

GasBuddy reports a wide range of prices across the region, with the least expensive stations offering fuel for around $3.59 per gallon, while some locations were charging as much as $4.39 per gallon.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said gasoline prices moved lower during much of last week as oil prices softened amid hopes of easing global supply concerns. However, he noted that ongoing geopolitical tensions continue to create uncertainty in energy markets and could lead to future price volatility.

Across Tennessee, average fuel prices have also declined over the past week. AAA data shows the statewide average for regular gasoline at about $3.62 per gallon, while the Chattanooga metro average is approximately $3.35 per gallon.

Motorists are encouraged to shop around for the best prices, as fuel costs can vary significantly from station to station.
