Late Monday morning, the Fort Payne Police Department received a call, believed to originate from a Fort Payne High School student, indicating he was armed and intended to harm himself, as well as potentially threaten other students, according to the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency.

Upon notification, Fort Payne City Schools promptly enacted lockdown protocols. Given the nature of the statements and the uncertainty regarding the caller’s exact location, all schools within the district were thoroughly searched.

No threats were found at any of the schools. Authorities believe the incident was a false alarm or hoax.
