The Tennessee Department of Human Services is once again accepting applications for its Families First Community Grant Program, offering millions of dollars in funding aimed at helping low-income families across the state achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
State officials say approximately $27 million in funding is expected to be available through the program, which supports nonprofit organizations providing direct services to Tennessee families in need. The grants are funded through Tennessee’s Families First Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.
According to the Tennessee Department of Human Services, the grant program focuses on projects that improve education, health, economic stability, and overall family well-being. Officials say the goal is to invest in local organizations that can provide measurable, community-based solutions for struggling families.
The Families First program itself provides temporary assistance and support services for qualifying families, including help with employment, transportation, childcare, and education opportunities designed to move participants toward financial independence.
Nonprofit organizations throughout Tennessee are eligible to apply if they provide direct services benefiting economically disadvantaged families. Previous rounds of the program have funded organizations focused on workforce development, housing stability, child and family support services, education initiatives, and health-related programs.
Applications for the latest grant cycle are now open through the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Officials encourage eligible organizations serving rural and underserved communities — including areas across Southeast Tennessee — to apply.
Additional information about eligibility requirements and application deadlines can be found through the Tennessee Department of Human Services website. Families interested in applying should obtain at least one of the federal TANF goals listed on their website to submit an application for the Families First Community Grant.
