Drivers across the local area are getting some relief at the pump as gasoline prices continue to move lower heading into the busy summer travel season.
According to fuel price tracking service GasBuddy, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Chattanooga has fallen 34.2 cents per gallon over the past week, bringing the local average to approximately $3.67 per gallon. Prices are now about 35 cents lower than they were one month ago, although they remain roughly 14 cents higher than this time last year.
The decline comes as fuel markets continue to respond to seasonal supply changes and fluctuations in crude oil prices. Nationally, average gasoline prices have also trended downward in recent weeks, providing welcome relief for motorists preparing for summer vacations and increased travel.
For drivers in the Sequatchie Valley and surrounding areas, prices may vary from station to station, but the overall trend has been lower fuel costs across Southeast Tennessee.
Industry analysts say gasoline prices could continue to fluctuate throughout the summer depending on refinery production, global oil markets, hurricane activity in the Gulf Coast region, and overall travel demand.
Motorists are encouraged to compare prices locally and use fuel price apps to find the best deals as prices continue to adjust throughout the season.
