SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — A routine safety checkpoint conducted by the Scottsboro Police Department on Friday night resulted in a drug arrest and the detention of a driver wanted on an outstanding warrant.
According to Scottsboro Police, officers were conducting a safety checkpoint in the 16000 block of Highway 35 at approximately 8:57 p.m. on Saturday, June 6 when they stopped a Jeep Compass and made contact with its occupants.
During the checkpoint, officers determined the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license and was also wanted on an active warrant through the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was detained while deputies responded to the scene.
Police said both occupants consented to a search of the vehicle. During that search, officers located items that led to the discovery of illegal drugs.
As a result of the investigation, Martha Ann Credille, 48, of Hammond, Indiana, was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
Credille was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on the outstanding warrant.
Authorities said Credille was transported to the Scottsboro City Jail, where she was booked without incident before being transferred to the Jackson County Jail.
The Scottsboro Police Department said it will continue utilizing safety checkpoints and proactive enforcement efforts aimed at promoting roadway safety and reducing criminal activity within the community.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
