Two Arrested Following Drug Investigation at Scottsboro Safety Checkpoint

Two Chattanooga men were arrested on multiple drug charges following a traffic safety checkpoint in Scottsboro, according to the Scottsboro Police Department.

Police said officers made contact with a passenger vehicle occupied by two individuals during the checkpoint operation. The occupants were identified as 37-year-old Adrian Labron Bentley and 37-year-old Christopher James Winchester, both of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

According to investigators, officers detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle, which led to a probable cause search.

During the search, officers reportedly discovered approximately 14.83 ounces of marijuana packaged in multiple bags throughout the vehicle, along with digital scales and packaging materials commonly associated with narcotics distribution.

Authorities also recovered $2,873 in suspected narcotics-related cash. Police said prescription medications not prescribed to either occupant were also found inside the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Bentley was charged with Possession of Marijuana First Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs.

Winchester was charged with Possession of Marijuana First Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Both men were transported to the Scottsboro City Jail for processing before later being transferred to the Jackson County Jail without incident.
