Marion County Market plans ‘Back to School’ market event for August 12th

The Marion County Market, the monthly farmers and crafters market held on the Courthouse Square in Jasper is planning for their upcoming August market Saturday with a “Back to School” event that even involves area kids to take part as vendors.

The Market which is held on the second Saturday of each month from 10am-2pm Central Time,  is known for featuring great vendors with products ranging from soaps and bath scrubs from vendors like Lavender in the Cove and the Sassy’s Soaps & Scrubs, to sweet treats and healthy skin products from Southern Bees, to delicious treats from our area culinary experts like Tori’s Cupcakes, Tastefully Simple with Kristy, and even treats you can’t help but indulge like fresh pork skins and a snow cone from the kids at the Marion County High School Interact Club.

That doesn’t even scratch the surface of offerings with everything from books to bows, handmade outfits for children, and so many great products, all of which make the Marion County Market a great shopping destination each second Saturday of the month in season.

With school starting back for Marion County Schools students on August 7th, Richard Hardy on August 10th, and most other area schools in the surrounding weeks; it seems only appropriate to cast the “Back to School” theme on the upcoming August 12th market…but what makes this market theme different is…kids!

Yes, you heard that right…kids! While you’ll find kids at the various markets in our area each month, they’re definitely no stranger to enjoying the sights and wares, there’s also quite a few who’s entrepreneurial skills shine! Selling everything from handmade jewelry they’ve learned to design and make to wood crafts and even food and sweet treats — channeling creativity as a child or young person does so well.

Remember Tori’s Cupcakes I mentioned a moment ago?  That’s Tori Walden. She’s just one of several young entrepreneurs who frequent area markets and events showcasing her talents for baking, which the current high school senior at Marion County High has been perfecting since her middle school days…having baked hundreds of cupcakes for parties of all kinds, weddings, and many other local celebrations and events. She has quite the following and if you’ve ever tried one of her cupcakes? You’ll understand why!

But this market event will be different because they’re opening the door to kids to take part…FREE! Yes, that’s right, for high school seniors and those younger the cost for a booth is absolutely FREE…and they can sell anything from homemade and handmade items to gently-used toys, games, collectibles, and more.

Market organizers say the idea behind this is to teach our children customer service skills through talking with customers, along with other valuable lessons like counting and handling money, learning work ethic, and more. Parents will be there to help, but they’re asked to offer support only when needed. This event is for the youth to learn, grow, and become experienced in social situations that will help them throughout their lives.

Sign-ups for the Children’s Market is now open. It’s limited to 35 spots, all first-come, first-serve, and absolutely free of charge. You can find the sign up link by clicking here.

Organizers expect the 10’x10′ tent spaces to go quickly, but may open more at a later date as logistics and space allows.

For those who wish to take part as regular vendors, there’s still plenty of space for you as well. The Town of Jasper will be closing an additional portion of the Courthouse Square on Betsy Pack Drive to allow for the additional space.

For regular vendors, the cost is $25 for each 10’x10′ space and paid in advance. You can find the sign-up link for regular vendors by clicking here.
