Fire in Dunlap Damages Home

On Monday, July 17, 2023) at 2:11 PM Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department was assigned to a report of a house with smoke inside at a residence on State Street. The residents returned home to discover the fire and were able to retrieve the pets safely. Dunlap patrolman Hobbs arrived first and upgraded the call to a working structure fire. With the humidity and heat index so high,

Chief Hatfield immediately requested mutual from Tri-State Mutual Aid and also Piney VFD. The fire was working into two rooms in the rear of the home involved, and the attic Firefighters made an initial aggressive interior attack but were forced out due to extreme heat. Mutual aid companies began arriving, and another interior attack was made. The house was an older structure with remodeling and renovations, and the fire became embedded in voids within the house.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 3 hours to completely extinguish the fire and perform an overhaul. The rear rooms received heavy fire damage, with smoke, water, and heat damage to the entire structure. The assistance from all the mutual companies allowed rotation of the crews and no injuries to firefighters.
