Pikeville Police Receives Grant for AEDs

The Pikeville Police Department recently received six (6) Automated External Defibrillators. The AEDs were purchased with Grant Funds through the Gary Sinise Foundation. Pikeville Grant Writer, Jeannie Decker, identified the grant opportunity to receive funds for equipment that could help save lives.

“Having these Automated External Defibrillators in each of our patrol units will help increase the survivability of Cardiac Arrest when seconds count,” stated Assistant Police Chief David Decker.

An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is used with C.P.R. to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It’s a sophisticated yet easy-to-use medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.

The Pikeville Police Department and the City of Pikeville would like to thank the Gary Sinise Foundation for their gracious gift to our community, which will enable our officers to be more effective in the field when responding to such incidents.
