There was a major incident on Tuesday afternoon involving a Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative sub-transmission line and fiber lines in front of Whitwell High School. Approximately 5,000 consumers were without power before crews began restoring.
No one is sure at this time what caused the lines to fall onto the roadway.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, a SETHRA bus hit the downed lines, and fires broke out.
When police arrived, they shut down the road while firefighters extinguished the fires. No injuries were reported.
