Pirates One Win Away from Trip to State Championship Game

The South Pittsburg Pirates (13-0) dominated Gordonsville on Friday, cruising to a 48-7 win in the TSSAA state playoff quarterfinals.

The Pirates averaged 10 yards per carry in rushing for 354 yards and outgained the Tigers 455-55 in total yards.

Sophomore running back JaMychal Buckner led South Pittsburg with 150 yards on nine carries, including a pair of 35-yard touchdowns. QB Kamden Wellington had 103 yards passing and two touchdowns. He also added 126 yards and another score.

The Pirates will travel to Oliver Springs (10-3) in the semifinals. As always, you can hear the South Pittsburg football on the home of the Pirates, The River 104.9. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
