Massive I-24/75 Split Project is on Hold

Part of the massive project to modify the troubled area where Interstate 24 and Interstate 75 intersect in Chattanooga has been put on hold.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) says that two concrete beams on the S Moore Road bridge and three concrete beams on the McBrien Road bridge over I-24 did not meet the requirements as stated in the contract. TDOT intends to fully enforce the terms of the contract. The contractor is responsible for the replacement of the deficient beams and all related additional work will be done at no additional cost to Tennesseans. TDOT says more information will be released as soon as possible. Wright Brothers Construction holds the contract on the project.

In June of 2019, TDOT began construction phase one of their project costing $132.6 million. It involved crews shifting the interchange to the west, widening the road with an extra lane and adding 11 new bridges, including interstate to interstate ramps.
