On July 22, 2024, at around 2:40 PM, Dunlap Fire responded to a vehicle fire on SR 111 Southbound, just South of the Scenic Overlook. Sequatchie County Sheriff’s deputies and Sequatchie County Emergency Management Director Brian Rhueling also responded.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a midsize SUV with the entire front part engulfed in fire. They quickly extinguished the fire and remained on the scene until the wrecker service could remove the SUV from the roadway. The fire appeared to have started in the engine compartment.
While on the scene of the vehicle fire, units were advised of a single-vehicle crash approximately two miles South of the fire location. Sequatchie deputies and Dunlap firefighters responded to the area.
A small truck had left the roadway from SR 111 and came to rest underneath the overpass on Harvey Road. It was determined that there was no need for extrication, but members remained on the scene to assist Puckett EMS. Both occupants were transported to Erlanger Sequatchie for treatment. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
