On August 16, agents with the 12th Judicial Drug Task Force assisted Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives after Dwight Daniel Stockwell had fled from deputies on August 15 at 496 Mountain Cove Rd. in Whitwell.
A search of a wooded area where Stockwell had fled revealed a backpack and a large metal pipe that was found to contain components of a red phosphorus methamphetamine production lab as well as firearms and ammunition.
DTF agents obtained a search warrant for Stockwell’s residence and located additional chemicals and equipment that are used in the production of methamphetamine as well as actual methamphetamine.
The Chattanooga Police bomb squad was called to inspect the large metal pipe and to clear the area of any explosives because Stockwell has a history of making homemade booby traps. Members of the bomb squad identified some explosive material that appeared to be homemade. The material was moved from the property and was submitted for additional testing.
The Tennessee Dangerous Drug Task Force responded to the property and packaged the methamphetamine manufacturing chemicals so they could be disposed of at a hazardous waste materials facility.
Stockwell was booked in the Marion County Jail on charges of evading arrest, initiation of a Process intended to result in the production of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine for resale, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
