Marion County Chamber of Commerce recently presented Travis Hickman, owner of The River 104.9, with a $2,500 check. This is the annual Spencer Wayne grant funding.
Hickman said,” I’d like to thank the Marion County Chamber and everyone who contributed by playing in the annual golf tournament that helped the chamber raise the money.
Hickman added, “Spencer Wayne did a lot of good in the community, and I feel like I will continue to honor him by using the money to help in one of his most cherished endeavors, and that was to provide information to the citizens of Marion County of which he was so happily proud member of for over 30 years.
Hickman continued, “We are grateful here at the radio station for receiving the business grant and would like to encourage anyone with a business to fill out the application for consideration for the grant when it comes up in 2025. We plan to utilize the money in two different areas to provide additional and improved coverage of local meetings and events throughout the county.”
Spencer Wayne was a great community leader and a very active chamber member. He also ran the Western Sizzlin Restaurant in Jasper for several years before his shocking death on September 17, 2018.
