Farming Fire in Dunlap

On September 20, 2024, at around 1:30 PM, the Dunlap Fire Department was dispatched to a farming Combine on fire in a bean field off of Old York Highway near the Sequatchie River.

Dunlap Fire and personnel from the Dunlap Police Department, Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office, and Sequatchie County Emergency Management responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters used a booster hose line to extinguish a small fire in the motor compartment.

Dunlap Fire Department personnel spoke with the Combine operator. It is believed the fire was caused by a buildup of dust on the motor belts. He stated that due to the severe drought conditions we are currently in, the dust being kicked up by the machinery is worse than usual. With the dry weather and conditions, a large field and woods fire was prevented thanks to the quick actions of all involved. There were no injuries, and all units were returned to service.
