Chattanooga State Student Charged after making Threat

A student at Chattanooga State Community College is facing serious charges following an incident in which he allegedly threatened to kill another student during class. Miles Alexander Harper, 18, was charged with making threats of mass violence against a school-related activity on February 14.

The situation unfolded on February 13, when a Chattanooga State Police officer was called to the welding classroom after multiple students reported overhearing Harper’s alarming statements. According to the arrest report, Harper allegedly threatened to shoot and kill another student while in his car. Witnesses also reported that Harper claimed to have been shot before and suggested he was involved in several local car thefts.

Due to the nature of the threats, the college issued Harper a temporary suspension. By the time the officer arrived to investigate, Harper had already left campus.

On February 14, Harper was formally served with the suspension notice. During this interaction, he reportedly stated that his comment about shooting another student was a joke.
