Scam Warning Issued by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department Detective Division is sounding the alarm on a rising threat: a new “SMISHING” scam targeting iPhone and Android users.

These scams, which have surged in our area over the past few months, involve fraudulent text messages designed to steal your personal and sensitive information, including passcodes and credit card details.

Many of the texts appear to be from familiar sources like Tollroads.com, Surpass, EZ Pass, FedEx, and DHL, but the FBI has reported numerous other attackers. Do not click on any of the links or respond to these messages. Immediately delete them to protect your information.
