Teenagers Rescued at Fall Creek Falls

The raft the teenagers were in when it hit the rocks. Photos provided.

On Thursday afternoon, just after 12, Piney Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Fall Creek Falls State Park for a report of females in a raft below the swinging bridge, and one was injured. Park rangers and fire personnel arrived to find everyone out of the water.

The teenagers had ridden an inflatable raft down Cane Creek and hit a rock, causing them to be thrown into the water.

The creek in that area was only accessible by going off the trail and down a steep embankment.

The Dunlap Fire Department was requested to provide a rope team to assist with setting up a rope system and for manpower support. A low-angle haul system was set up to ascend the slick embankment safely.

The injured person was taken up the embankment and carried to the parking lot of the Nature Center. Van Buren County EMS transported.
