Nearly half of Americans live with high blood pressure. High blood pressure, or hypertension, contributed to almost 700,000 deaths in 2021 and is a significant risk factor for heart disease and stroke. The Southeast has the highest rates of high blood pressure.
Stacker has released a report on the top 25 counties in Tennessee with the highest rates of hypertension. Below are the counties that made the list in our area.
#22. Sequatchie County
– Adults with high blood pressure: 36.8%
– Adults on medication for high blood pressure: 22.9% (62.3% of those with high blood pressure)
#10. Bledsoe County
– Adults with high blood pressure: 37.7%
– Adults on medication for high blood pressure: 23.8% (63.2% of those with high blood pressure)
The county with the highest rate of blood pressure in Tennessee is Hardeman County.
