United States Supreme Court Upholds Tennessee Transgender Law

Supreme Court of the United States

The Supreme Court of the United States issued its decision in the case of U.S. v. Skrmetti on Wednesday, which addressed Tennessee’s law restricting gender-transition surgeries for minors.

The 6-3 decision from Chief Justice Roberts was announced Wednesday morning. Justice Sotomayor dissented, joined by Jackson. Justice Kagan also dissented.

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court upheld Tennessee’s law, affirming the State’s authority to protect kids from risky and unproven medical practices.

Tennessee’s law bans puberty blockers and hormone treatments for transgender minors. Another 26 states have laws similar to the one in Tennessee.
