After State Funded Teacher Bonus is Rejected Grundy County School Board Member Resigns

Dr David Dickerson

A member of the Grundy County Board of Education resigned on Wednesday in response to reactions over teacher bonuses. County Mayor Michael Brady announced that Dr. David Dickerson’s resignation is effective immediately.

Dickerson’s resignation follows the school board’s decision to reject a state-funded $320,000 one-time bonus offer from the state of Tennessee for local school teachers. Dickerson was among the board members who voted against accepting the bonus. Grundy County was the only school system in the state that declined the payment.

Following this decision, some teachers in the county changed their profile pictures to feature a hand symbol with “re5ign,” encouraging the five school board members who voted against the teacher bonus to step down.
