It’s hard to believe, but we’re only a few weeks away from the return of high school football in the Tennessee Valley, which means it’s even closer to time for the annual Jamboree and Scrimmages at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium.
And this year three teams from the valley including Marion, South Pittsburg, and Whitwell, will be participating in scrimmages against other area teams.
In all, fifteen area high school football teams will take to the field to participate in the annual event over the course of two weekends starting on August 8 and 9 and again on August 15. This is the second time in a 26-years stretch that the event will be played over the course of two weekends. And if that weren’t enough–the Heritage band is scheduled to perform.
This will be the first time any band from any of the participating schools has taken part in this event. The 140-member band will add a 10-minute show to the scrimmages on Saturday Night Aug 9th.
All the teams from Tennessee have hopes of returning to Finley this December for a shot at a state
championship.
“We are thrilled to have Chattanooga State as our presenting sponsor and for their commitment,” said Todd Agne, Director of Top-Flight Sports, the events coordinating partner.
“It really solidifies their connection with area high schools, sports, and higher education. Their support allows us to continue to kick off the high school football season with a fun, family event”.
Friday August 8th features two border battles when Walker Valley meets Ringgold followed by a Warren County / Dade County match up. Then on the 9th, Heritage will take on East Hamilton while Tyner and Hixson finish the evening and the first weekend of scrimmages.
“These scrimmages offer fans a chance to see some different match-ups”, says Event Director Todd Agne. “We are always excited to welcome teams from North Georgia and give them the experience of playing in Finley Stadium.”
When the Jamboree returns for the second week on Friday August 15th. The night includes the return of Sale Creek facing Marion County, Whitwell versus Silverdale, McCallie vs. Tyner, and South Pittsburg facing the first ever appearance of Hayesville, NC.
Having teams come from across the region is a testament to the excitement and opportunity that players and coaches alike share about this event.
All seats are general admission and the cost is $10 each day.
Tickets are available from participating high schools and they will also be sold at the gate at Finley Stadium.
