Starting August 5, you must dial all 10 digits in the 423-area code for your call to go through. This includes Hamilton, Marion, Sequatchie, Bledsoe, Rhea, Meigs, Bradley, McMinn, Monroe, and Polk counties in East Tennessee. Those who live in a different area code and have to call a 423 number will need to dial all 10 digits starting August 5 to reach anyone inside the 423-area code.
Also, if you already have a 423-phone number, your number will not change, nor will any changes be made to emergency services such as 911 or other special 3-digit service codes.
However, any new telephone lines and services in the 423 region will be assigned numbers with the 729-area code once the 423 numbers available run out. New numbers assigned with the 729-area code will be available starting September 5.
